PROGRESS BEING MADE: Life Skills Centre Update

Getting ready to lay cement

The new Life Skills Centre Building at St. Clare Centre is heading in the right direction.  Recently a crew of twenty men and one woman arrived at the site to add to the already hard working sixteen-man construction crew.  This began the “laying of the first floor.”  They dragged in a live, gasoline powered cement mixer (most Kenyan construction is totally by hand), a new innovation.  All day four men and one woman shoveled sand into the rotating mixer.  One man provided water, another added the cement, another shoveled in the gravel.

It is imperative the job be completed in a day so the noise and hustle levels are high.    Even as dark approaches, they were still at it.  Now they wait 21 days to ensure that the cement cures.

Watching this process is a lesson in hard work and patience.
