SPROUTING IN THE SHAMBA

Diana from class 8 shares some information on St. Clare Centre for Girls' shamba.

Shamba (Shamba is the Swahili word for “garden’)

St. Clare's shamba

At St. Clare, we have a shamba (Shamba is the Swahili word for “garden.”)  Our shamba is also important because this is where we get most of our food.  Maize, cabbages, tomatoes, carrots, sweet potatoes and spinach come from our shamba.

I enjoy working in the shamba which is like practicing African agriculture.  Being in the shamba helps us develop our work abilities and by helping us be physically active. In our school we normally go to the shamba twice a month and we really enjoy working there.
