Kenya's Ministry of Education has instituted a new competence-based curriculum for all students. As a result, all Kenyan schools will need to purchase new text books to implement the new curriculum. This will occur, grade by grade, one year at a time over a several year period.
The administrators at the schools supported by FOKO are reviewing a comprehensive list of texts and other instructional materials which the Ministry has approved.
Mr. Bernard, St. Clare's administrator, has already begun to respond to this new initiative by budgeting funding needed for books for the first three classes. Education is very important in Kenya and schools like St. Clare are already planning to give the children the best materials and chance to succeed.
