THANK "FULL"
Thanksgiving 2016
Dear Friends,
As you prepare to gather together in this season of gratitude, know that we here at Friends of Kenyan Orphans are truly full of thanks for you, our supporters and friends.
Because you are full of grace and generosity, Father Riwa, who founded and fuels the Children’s Village in Kenya, does not have to say, “No, we are full.”, when yet another 5-year old girl has been found nearby rummaging through garbage for food because no one is caring for her. And far too many are still on the streets.
Because you heeded our call, Bud and Sue Ozar, our founders, have witnessed the impact of a small miracle like a sewing machine in the new Life Skills Centre. Giving a girl a life skill will allow her to earn a living and care for her family. A repaired oven and fuel for cooking allows the girls to have a bun with their breakfast and not just a bowl of porridge. A full belly, something still very new to many of them.
Recently, Father Riwa has been called to act on behalf of yet another group of children below the surface of the OVC (orphaned and vulnerable children) in Kenya. These are the children who have lost both parents to HIV/AIDS and are themselves infected. Extended family members and the community view these children as the “walking dead” and they are avoided for fear of transmitting the AIDS virus. With nowhere to turn and no one to care for them, these children turn up in the streets. Most die before the age of 6 or 7.
So, we ask. We ask because in addition to supplying basic necessities of life and an opportunity for an education to the girls who attend St. Clare School in the Children’s Village, we feel called to help these children with AIDS.
Homes for Hope has been created by Father Riwa to house and care for these children. They receive a special nutritious diet to boost their immune systems, needed medications, education and love. The first home is a rented space near the Children’s Village.More homes are needed.
We fully appreciate support in any amount for the students at St. Clare and the children at Homes for Hope.
Your gift of $100 can provide simple, but nutritious and immunity-building meals to six children for a full month at Homes of Hope.
Your gift of $200 can provide books and writing paper for one full class of children at St. Clare, most working hard to “catch up” as they come with no formal education.
Your $500 Sponsorship will provide food, clothing, shelter and education to one girl at St. Clare School for a full year!
While the need is great, your sacrifice for these children will be life changing - and they are so grateful. I received an email from Nancy, a student who recently graduated from St. Clare and attends college. Nancy said, “Without the wonderful support from FOKO, my life would be hard to define. Now I can claim to have seen the hand of God through FOKO.”
Peace and Great Joy to you in this season of Thanksgiving.
Kind Regards,
Jewel Lewis, Executive Director
